Patio Installation in St. Louis, MO
Custom-designed patios built with premium Unilock pavers, natural flagstone, or concrete by an authorized contractor with more than 20 years of installation experience in the St. Louis area.
The Right Patio Changes How You Use Your Backyard
A well-built patio is the single biggest upgrade you can make to your outdoor living space. It creates a defined area for dining, entertaining, relaxing, and spending time with family, and it adds real value to your property. In the St. Louis area, a quality patio extends your usable living season from March through November.
At Green Operations, patio installation is what we are known for. Travis has been designing and building patios for St. Louis homeowners for over 20 years, and as an authorized Unilock contractor, we install premium products that are specifically engineered to handle Missouri's freeze-thaw cycles, intense summer heat, and heavy clay soils.
Every patio we build starts with proper site preparation. That means excavating to the correct depth, installing geotextile fabric to prevent soil migration, and building a compacted gravel base that meets manufacturer specifications. The base is what keeps your patio level and crack-free for decades, and it is where most contractors cut corners. We do not.
Types of Patios We Install
We build patios in a range of styles and materials to match your home, your budget, and the way you actually use your outdoor space.
Paver Patios
Interlocking paver patios are our specialty and the most popular choice for St. Louis homeowners. Unilock pavers offer superior durability at 8,000+ PSI compressive strength, and their EnduraColor Plus technology resists fading from UV exposure. Individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, making long-term maintenance simple and affordable.
Flagstone Patios
Natural flagstone creates an organic, rustic look that pairs well with wooded lots and traditional home styles found in many St. Louis neighborhoods. We use locally sourced stone and set it on either a compacted base with sand joints or mortared on a concrete slab, depending on the application and your aesthetic preferences.
Multi-Level Patios
Sloped backyards in Jefferson County and the south St. Louis hills are perfect candidates for multi-level patios. We use retaining walls to create distinct zones for dining, lounging, and cooking, turning an unusable hillside into a functional outdoor living area with built-in seating and fire features.
Our Patio Installation Process
A patio that lasts 25+ years starts with doing the right things in the right order. Here is how we approach every installation.
On-Site Consultation
We visit your property to assess the grade, drainage, soil conditions, and access points. Travis walks the space with you, discusses how you plan to use the patio, and identifies any challenges like tree roots, utility lines, or grade changes that affect the design.
Design & Material Selection
We design your patio layout with the exact dimensions, shape, and pattern. You choose from our full Unilock product line or natural stone options. We provide a detailed, itemized estimate before any work begins so there are no surprises.
Excavation & Base Preparation
We excavate to the correct depth, typically 8 to 12 inches for a standard patio in St. Louis clay soils. Geotextile fabric is installed, followed by layers of compacted gravel that create a solid, well-drained foundation. This is the most important step in the entire process.
Paver Installation & Finishing
Pavers are set by hand with consistent joint spacing and precise cuts at borders and curves. Edge restraints are secured, polymeric sand is swept into joints and activated with water, and the entire surface is compacted for a tight, finished result.
Walkthrough & Clean-Up
We walk the completed patio with you to confirm every detail meets your expectations. The job site is cleaned thoroughly, and we provide care instructions for your new patio including recommendations for sealing.
What Sets Our Patio Work Apart
Authorized Unilock Contractor
Our Unilock authorization means specialized training, access to their complete product line, and extended warranties for our clients. Unilock does not give this status to every contractor. It requires proven skills, ongoing education, and a track record of quality installations.

Our Best Driveway Award in 2025 demonstrates the level of craftsmanship we bring to every paver project. That same precision and attention to detail goes into every patio, whether it is 200 square feet or 2,000.
20+ Years in St. Louis
Two decades of building patios in St. Louis means we know the clay soils, the drainage challenges, and exactly how deep to build our base to prevent settling. Experience matters when you are investing in a patio that should last 25 years or more.
Complete Outdoor Design
We do not just install patios. We integrate them with retaining walls, fire features, outdoor kitchens, lighting, and landscaping to create a complete outdoor living space. Having one contractor handle everything means the design is cohesive and the project stays on schedule.

Patio Installation FAQ
Patio costs depend on size, materials, and site conditions. A basic paver patio starts around $3,000 to $5,000 for a smaller space (150 to 250 square feet). A larger patio with borders, patterns, and integrated features like seating walls or fire pits can range from $15,000 to $50,000. We provide free, detailed estimates with exact pricing before any work begins.
A standard patio takes 3 to 5 days from excavation to completion. Larger or more complex projects with retaining walls, multi-level designs, or integrated outdoor kitchens can take 2 to 4 weeks. Weather also affects the timeline, especially during St. Louis's rainy spring season. We provide a realistic schedule during the estimate.
For St. Louis properties, pavers are the better choice in most situations. Unlike poured concrete, interlocking pavers flex slightly with ground movement from freeze-thaw cycles, which prevents cracking. If a single paver is damaged, it can be replaced individually without tearing out the entire surface. Unilock pavers also offer superior color retention and design versatility compared to standard concrete.
